The opera tells the story of Yaeko Mitamura (called Yakko, Luciana in the Italian version, called Lycia) a girl who works at the Mambo, the okonomiyaki-ya (traditional restaurant specializing in okonomiyaki) managed by the father Shige-san (Marrabbio). Yakko sees a day-by-case Hashizō (Andrea), a child in kindergarten, her cat ran away with Julian, and take care of them. Soon after, while walking down the street, collides with Go (Mirko) Hashizō's older brother and lead singer of the group the Bee Hive, concerned about the disappearance of her little brother. After an initial moment of friction between the two become friends destined to turn into an overwhelming love. But things are not so simple because Yakko has half a love story with the group's keyboard player of Go, Satomi; between the two will raise a great rivalry that will compromise the success of the band. What's more, to further complicate things come Isuzu (Manuela) and Meiko (Marika), the first friend in love with Yakko and Go, the second, arrogant and ambitious, in love with Satomi. And the character of the old girl's father (who is not keen to see the two "hippies") does not help in this difficult choice: Go or Satomi? Over time, things settle down and Yakko can finally understand what really proof against GO, thanks to the intervention of the small Hashizō he sees in the young mother figure he never had. Satomi gives the court of Meiko and Isuzu notices another member of the group, with whom he engaged and married. On the final series of the Bee Hive, now riding the wave of success, leaving for a tour in the U.S., not before, however, that Shige-san (smoothed over differences with the son) has obliged the two lovers to officially announce the their engagement.
